What You Need to Know About An Ignition Interlock Device?

–From a Pennsylvania DUI lawyer

Do you still want to be able to drive even if you have a Pennsylvania DUI conviction.

Depending on the circumstances of your DUI charge, you may be able to thanks to the existence of ignition interlock devices. Pennsylvania DUI law allows this under certain conditions.

If you've never heard of it, I'm sure you're wondering "What's that?"

Simply put, an ignition interlock is a device that is installed in a convicted driver’s vehicle.

The driver must blow into a tube in the vehicle and if the device senses the presence of alcohol in the driver’s breath, the vehicle will not start.

The interlock device also stores the data and various authorities may be notified if the driver tried to start the vehicle with alcohol on their breath.

Not everyone charged with DUI faces the installation of an interlock device.

But many do.

And at a cost of approximately $1,000.00 per vehicle owned, it can be very costly. Whether this device has to be installed in a particular case is often a factor considered in deciding whether to go to trial versus negotiating a plea.

As a Pennsylvania dui attorney this is just one of the tactics I am able to use to help my clients avoid losing their license . . . and their freedom.
